Interviewing Freja - female winner of Lake Garda Meeting 2025

Interviewing Freja - female winner of Lake Garda Meeting 2025

Not too long ago noora was in Riva del Garda for the Lake Garda Meeting 2025 Optimist regatta. It was an incredible week (despite maybe not the best weather) meeting so many ambitious sailors. We rented one of the wooden stands by the yacht club and brought as much gear as possible and we're super happy to say that most of the wetsuits got sold out! There's no better feeling than hearing that you love our products, and nothing makes us more motivated to keep designing gear that empower women.

In the end of the week, the three first girls in the gold fleet won noora prices (1st won a Long Jane, 2nd won a Jacket, 3rd won boots), and we're lucky to have interviewed the female winner - Freja Vintergaard. She finished 7th overall in the gold fleet and had a striking week of sailing, only a few points away from finishing 4th.

Freja is 15 years old from Copenhagen, Denmark. She started her optimist career when she was nine years old in Skovshoved sailing club and sailed there for about two years before moving to Vedbæk sailclub where she is currently sailing. So far, Optimist is the dinghy she's been sailing.

Let's hear a bit more about Frejas sailing:

Why did you start sailing?
I started sailing because my mom sailed when she was younger and she liked it very much, so she thought it would be fun for my sister and me to try.

What is your goal/dream in sailing going forward?
I hope to be top-10 best girls in the World championship and qualify to The R.O.C 2025.

The Lake Garda Meeting is one of the biggest optimist regattas in the world, with around 800 sailors competing. It is a highly competitive fleet and not easy fighting at the top. Freja managed to stay very consistent in her gold fleet series, with 6/9 races in the top 5. Here's her thoughts on the week:

What was the key to finish as first girl?
The key for me was to get good starts and then cover the fleet, and not concentrate on where the girls were but where the fleet was.
What was the best moment during the regatta?
The best moment from the regatta was when I started on port tack and then I could cross the fleet, it felt so good.
Do you have any funny stories from the week?
I think it was the second training day where I tried to hike without my feet in the hikingstraps and then I fell into the water. My friend laughed and we had a good time.
What is your advice to someone about to go sailing on Lake Garda?
The best thing to do is to get good starts and cover the fleet and don’t make to many tacks.

Many girls out there are struggling with long days on the water because it's hard to fuel right with the hassle of having to use the bathroom. We asked Freja how she best fuels for a long day on the water.

I have oatmeal for breakfast because I know it gives me energy that lasts longer and I make sure that I have enough food and drinks on the water. Better too much than too little, because you never know exactly how many hours you will be on the water.

Giving your body the right circumstances to perform is key. Focusing on eating and drinking enough is a big part of doing sports. Freja shows what it takes to become no1 girl in this competitive fleet.

We know many girls struggle with fueling properly because they don't have time or they don't want to go to the bathroom while being out on the water. Our Drop-Zip is designed to make it easy for girls to eat right and especially drink enough water. We take away the stress and hassle with toilet breaks. Now that Freja has her own noora wetsuit we had to ask what her first impression is:

It’s the best wetsuit I have ever tried, it looks very good and it’s so comfortable and it’s so smart you can pee so fast.

Thank you so much Freja for letting us get to know you a bit better and for sharing your stories! You're a true inspiration to girls out there and we're excited to see where your journey is headed. Good luck with your sailing!
